The following images are snapshots taken quickly at the printing studio before the completed books were boxed up. The books were all distributed to family and close friends of Donald Ray Horton, so high-quality photography will be available as soon as the marketing department acquires our own copy.
In May of 2024, Donald Ray Horton passed away. Having been D.R. Horton's beloved Founder, CEO and Executive Chairman of the Board, to say his passing was "a big deal" is an understatement. Donald, commonly known as Don or DR, absolutely loved what he did. He prided himself on helping millions of people and families achieve "the American Dream of homeownership," and referred to all of his employees, customers, and vendor partners as "the D.R. Horton family."
DR made a tremendous impact on so many people, which was solidified by the outpour of condolences and stories upon his passing. With hundreds of kind words and memories of DR stacking up, we decided to create a commemorative book for his family members, whom he loved deeper than words can describe.
I had the honor of working directly with the executives to bring such a special project to life. In just a few month's time, I had sifted through about 600 quotes, poured through every photo in our file system and requested more photos from family and friends, designed a 212-page book, spent a lot of time with Brumley Printing making sure everything from the leather used for the cover to the texture of the pages was perfect, and finally, sent my work off for production. The completed books, which captured DR's outdoor-loving personality as well as his love for his family and work, were hand-delivered to several family members and close friends early in 2025 as a holiday gift.
